“Works with Garmin” can mean eight different things. An app can read what Garmin Connect writes to Apple Health or Android’s Health Connect, it can be a direct Garmin Connect partner, it can pick up your activities through Strava, it can run on the watch as a Connect IQ app, or it can simply listen to your heart rate over Bluetooth. Since Garmin relaunched its developer program on October 21, 2026, you can also pull your own data with a personal API key, which intervals.icu’s founder says is free.12345678
The route decides what the app sees. Garmin’s own Apple Health and Health Connect lists carry workouts, heart rate, sleep, steps and calories, but neither list includes HRV or Body Battery. Among apps, those numbers leave Garmin only through direct partners such as TrainingPeaks, Cronometer, intervals.icu and Runalyze; your own Personal API key can also pull them for your account.12910111213
The short answer: Apple Health, Health Connect, Strava and at least 14 direct partner apps work with Garmin, plus Connect IQ apps and your own API key; among apps, HRV reaches only the direct partners and Body Battery reaches TrainingPeaks, while your own API key can pull both.123910111213
Every integration, price and data type below was checked on November 4, 2026 against Garmin’s support articles, Garmin’s developer pages, each partner’s help center and PubMed. SensAI makes a competing training app that reads Garmin data through Apple Health, so we say where other apps get more from your Garmin than SensAI does.
What apps work with Garmin? The short answer
Garmin connects to other apps eight ways: Apple Health on iPhone, Health Connect on Android 14 and later, direct Garmin Connect partners, Strava, the new Personal API key, Connect IQ apps on the watch, live heart-rate broadcast, and FIT file export. Only direct partner apps get Garmin HRV or Body Battery; your own Personal API key can pull both.12347561413

The pattern matters more than the list. Apart from your own Personal API key, your HRV and Body Battery leave Garmin only through direct partners; neither is on Garmin’s Apple Health or Health Connect list.13 An app that reads only those hubs can rebuild a picture from sleep and heart rate, but it cannot show your Body Battery. For what goes into that score, see how Garmin Body Battery, WHOOP Recovery and Oura Readiness are calculated.

Which apps sync with Garmin Connect? Compatible apps, verified (2026)
We found no single official list of Garmin Connect compatible apps; Garmin’s support article says to contact each app’s support team. We verified 14 direct links as of November 4, 2026, 13 on the apps’ own pages and Peloton through press reports: TrainingPeaks, intervals.icu, Cronometer, MyFitnessPal, Strava, Runna, Final Surge, Zwift, TrainerRoad, Wahoo SYSTM, komoot, Stryd, Runalyze and Peloton.340
| App | Route | What it gets | Direction | Source date |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| TrainingPeaks | Direct partner (owned by Garmin since July 202641) | Activities (up to 5 years back), body composition, Daily Health Stats: Body Battery, stress, HRV, resting heart rate, sleep329 | Both: sends “the next 15 days of eligible structured workouts” to Garmin32 | Edited Sept 11, 2025 and Apr 23, 2025 |
| intervals.icu | Direct partner | Activities, wellness, HRV (rMSSD), floors climbed351142 | From Garmin; workout upload’s future “not sure” (Oct 202643) | Forum, Oct 2026 |

| Runalyze | Direct partner | Activities, nightly HRV summary, historical HRV, blood pressure12 | Garmin → Runalyze | Changelog, Oct 2026 |
| Peloton | Direct partner | Garmin → Peloton since late 2025; Peloton workouts into Garmin since March 2026, per DC Rainmaker and the5krunner4748 | Both (reported) | Press, Mar 2026 |
Each app’s own help page, checked November 4, 2026. Peloton’s own support article did not load; that row rests on DC Rainmaker and the5krunner. Nike Run Club’s help confirms a Garmin partner link but not what syncs.49
Garmin sets the ground rules in one article. “Most third-party services only receive data from Garmin Connect; they do not send data back to it,” some services can send data back “though supported data types vary,” and “Garmin Connect does not forward data received from one third-party site to another.”3
That last rule explains a lot of confusion. A run that Zwift sends into Garmin Connect does not travel on to Strava through Garmin.3
What a partner can ask for is also documented: activities, daily health stats (calories, steps, sleep, heart rate, stress, VO2 max, body composition), golf data, women’s health and historical data. Historical data “is turned off by default.”17
Garmin’s own App Store listing promises only this much: “Sync with other apps like Apple Health, MyFitnessPal and Strava.”50 As reviewer Ray Maker put it the day the API program reopened, “Every single 3rd-party platform that integrates with Garmin is marketing for Garmin.”18
Does Garmin sync with Apple Health? What crosses and what stays behind
Yes, one way. Garmin Connect sends workouts, heart rate, sleep, steps, active and resting energy, walking and running distance, flights climbed, weight, body fat, BMI and water to Apple Health. It does not send HRV, Body Battery, stress, VO2 max, Training Readiness or respiration, and it never reads anything back from Apple Health.1
The table puts Garmin’s two export lists side by side.
| Data | Garmin → Apple Health | Garmin → Health Connect |
|---|---|---|
| Workouts / activities | ✅ No GPS track | ✅ |
| Heart rate | ✅ All-day; only high/low during activities | ✅ |
| Sleep | ✅ Sleep Analysis | ✅ Sleep Stages |
| Steps | ✅ | ✅ |
| Calories | ✅ Active and resting energy | ✅ Active and total calories |
| Distance | ✅ Walking + running | ✅ |
| Floors / flights climbed | ✅ | ✅ |
| Weight, body fat | ✅ | ✅ |
| BMI, water | ✅ | — |
| Cadence, speed, elevation, swim strokes | — | ✅ |
| HRV | ❌ | ❌ |
| Body Battery | ❌ | ❌ |
| Stress, VO2 max, respiration | ❌ | ❌ |
| Training Readiness | ❌ | ❌ |
| Reads data back into Garmin | ❌ “Doesn’t pull data” | ❌ “One-way transfer” |
Garmin, “Sharing Your Garmin Connect Data With Apple Health” and “Sharing Your Garmin Connect Data With Health Connect,” checked November 4, 2026. ❌ = not on Garmin’s list.12
Four details trip people up. “Garmin Connect must be open in the foreground to send data to Apple Health. If closed, the transfer pauses.”1 Workouts arrive without their route: “Any associated GPS track will NOT be written to Apple Health.”1 Heart rate inside a workout is thin, because Garmin “only sends high/low HR values for timed activities,” so the Activity app may show “Chart Unavailable.”1 And Garmin data never moves your Activity rings, which “only update with data synced from an Apple Watch.”1
When you first switch it on, “the Health app imports your past data going back up to two weeks.”1 If you own only an Edge cycling computer, Garmin Connect does not appear in Apple Health at all.1
SensAI’s Help Center describes the same boundary from the reading side: “Workouts, heart rate, sleep, steps, and calories cross. HRV, Body Battery, and Training Readiness stay in Garmin’s app.”15 For the same comparison across Oura, WHOOP and Garmin, see what syncs from Oura, WHOOP and Garmin to Apple Health.
Does Garmin send HRV to Apple Health?
No. HRV is not on Garmin’s Apple Health list, and Athlytic, an Apple Health recovery app, states: “Garmin does not sync HRV to Apple Health, even though it tracks HRV internally.” Any app that reads only Apple Health therefore never sees your Garmin HRV.116
Athlytic points to third-party bridges, RunGap, FitnessSyncer or “HRV Sync,” and then adds a caution: “Garmin limits access to some data via its API, so neither tool may always be able to transfer HRV.”16
Chest straps don’t solve it either. Garmin says an HRV-capable strap feeds its metrics, but “the raw HRV data will not be recorded in Garmin Connect.”5 On the watch itself, HRV shows in Health Snapshot and HRV Status.5
Does Garmin work with Android Health Connect?
Yes, one way, on Android 14 and above. Garmin Connect writes activity calories, cadence, distance, elevation, heart rate, speed, steps and swim strokes, plus wellness body fat, calories, floors, heart rate, sleep stages, steps and weight. HRV, Body Battery, stress, VO2 max, SpO2 and respiration are not on the list, and Garmin reads nothing back.2
Garmin’s article is blunt about direction: “Please note that this is a one-way transfer; Garmin will not read any data from Health Connect.”2 After setup, “Garmin Connect syncs data to Health Connect after each successful device sync.”2
The link took time to arrive. Android Police reported on July 1, 2025 that Google had announced Garmin support at I/O in May 2025, and that “the Garmin–Google Health Connect syncing still isn’t live yet.”51 We could not find the exact day it went live; Garmin’s page describes it as available today.2
Does Garmin sync with Strava?
Yes. Garmin Connect sends every uploaded activity to Strava automatically, and the first link backfills “the previous one year” of activities. Starred Strava courses and segments also sync, but activities recorded in Strava never go to Garmin Connect. Garmin strength workouts arrive with exercise names, sets, reps and weight. HRV does not cross.439
Strava’s own article, updated September 22, 2026, adds two catches. “Garmin activities will only sync to the most recently created Strava account,” and after reconnecting, “Garmin Sync is not triggered until the first new activity is uploaded.”44
Strength is the surprise. Strava lists Garmin among the partners that send “exercise names, sets, reps, weight, and working time,” next to Hevy, Fitbod and Runna, and notes that “Some devices, including select Garmin watches, automatically detect exercises and reps.”39
Strava is not a pipe into Apple Health for Garmin routes. Strava says “route information from activities recorded with an app from another company (such as Garmin or Zwift) will not sync to Apple Health.”52
The two companies did go to court. Per DC Rainmaker, Strava filed a patent suit against Garmin about 30 September 2025, covering heat-map routing and Live Segments, and then “voluntarily dismisses the above-captioned action, without prejudice” on 21 October 2025, with no public settlement terms.53 The sync kept working. For the device-by-device view from Strava’s side, see what syncs with Strava in 2026.
Does Garmin work with TrainingPeaks?
Yes, both ways, and TrainingPeaks is the only partner we checked that documents receiving Body Battery (daily high and low), plus stress, HRV, resting heart rate, sleep and activities. TrainingPeaks sends 15 days of structured workouts to your watch, but not strength workouts. Garmin bought TrainingPeaks on July 22, 2026.93241
The health data needs one extra switch. In Garmin Connect, go to Connected Apps, then TrainingPeaks, and turn on Daily Health Stats.32 TrainingPeaks lists “Body Battery (the highest and lowest value for each day),” “Stress Level (the daily average),” “HRV (with compatible devices),” “Resting Heart Rate (RHR)” and “Sleep.”32
History is a one-shot deal. You can “sync up to 5 years’ worth of past workouts,” but “Garmin only allows users one opportunity to sync their Garmin history to TrainingPeaks,” and “there is no option to sync historic body composition or daily health data.”329
Workouts flow to the watch for runs, rides, swims, cross-training, rowing and walks. “Strength, Day Off, and Brick workouts are not supported.”9 Planning future workouts is a Premium feature, $19.95 a month or $134.99 a year.3334
The ownership changed in July. “Garmin Ltd. (NYSE: GRMN) today announced it has acquired the TrainingPeaks and TrainHeroic training platforms,” the July 22, 2026 release says; “Financial terms of the acquisition will not be disclosed.”41 We found no source describing changes to the sync since.
Which apps get Garmin HRV and Body Battery?
Only apps with a direct Garmin Connect link: TrainingPeaks (HRV and Body Battery), Cronometer (HRV with time series), intervals.icu (nightly HRV as rMSSD) and Runalyze (nightly HRV summary). Apple Health apps such as Athlytic, and HRV apps such as HRV4Training, Elite HRV and Welltory, cannot read a Garmin watch’s HRV.910111216545556
| App | Garmin watch HRV? | Body Battery? | How |
|---|---|---|---|
| TrainingPeaks | ✅ “with compatible devices” | ✅ Daily high and low | Daily Health Stats toggle32 |
| Cronometer | ✅ Including time series | — | Direct import10 |
| intervals.icu | ✅ “lastNightAvg” mapped to rMSSD | — | Direct wellness sync11 |
| Runalyze | ✅ Nightly summary and history | — | Direct sync12 |
| Athlytic | ❌ Not in Apple Health | ❌ | Apple Health only; suggests bridges16 |
| HRV4Training | ❌ Manual entry only | ❌ | “Manual Input mode”54 |
| Elite HRV | ❌ Watches “designed for heart rate only” | ❌ | Works with Garmin HRM Dual and HRM Pro straps5557 |
| Welltory | ❌ HRV “No” for Garmin watches | ❌ | Garmin HRM-Dual and HRM-Pro work for HRV56 |
| Any Apple Health or Health Connect app | ❌ | ❌ | Not on Garmin’s lists12 |
Each app’s own help page, checked November 4, 2026.
So the best HRV app for a Garmin watch depends on whether you want the watch’s overnight number or a fresh morning reading. For the watch’s own HRV, you need TrainingPeaks, Cronometer, intervals.icu or Runalyze. For a strap reading each morning, Elite HRV and Welltory accept Garmin’s HRM-Dual and HRM-Pro.91011125756
Body Battery is the narrower path. Of the apps we checked, only TrainingPeaks documents receiving it.9
What changed in Garmin’s API in October 2026?
Garmin relaunched its Connect Developer Program on October 21, 2026 with three levels: a pull-only Personal API key for your own data, a Starter tier for small apps, and Enterprise, with history and unlimited users. intervals.icu’s founder says the first two are free, DC Rainmaker reports Enterprise fees from April 2027, and onward sharing is being restricted.781858
| Personal | Starter (business) | Enterprise (business) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who it’s for | “Individuals” accessing “your own Garmin Connect data” | Apps getting started | Larger services |
| Data | Activity (JSON and .FIT), Health (JSON), Women’s Health (JSON) | Activity, Courses, Health, Training, Women’s Health APIs | The same, plus Golf |
| Delivery | “Pull only” | “Push only” | “Push or Ping/Pull” |
| Historical data | — | “Not included” | “1 month +” |
| Users | You | “Limited” | “Unlimited” |
| Price on Garmin’s page | None shown | None shown | “Commercial terms are tailored” |
| Reported price | Free (intervals.icu founder8) | Free (intervals.icu founder8) | $1,000 entry fee credited to a per-active-user bill, from April 1, 2027, per DC Rainmaker18 |
Garmin Connect Developer Program overview, checked November 4, 2026; fees are not on Garmin’s public page.7
The pause came first. The5krunner reported that new applications stalled from spring 2026, with Garmin telling one developer it was doing a “significant redesign and modernisation of the API program,” while “existing approved partners continue to work.”22
Then the relaunch. “All Garmin Connect users can now access a free personal API key directly from Garmin Connect,” intervals.icu founder David Tinker wrote on October 21; “There is now a practical direct route to Garmin data for individuals and developers.”8 You create the key on Garmin Connect’s web settings, and “the key will only be displayed once.”59
On fees, DC Rainmaker reports “an initial $1,000 entry fee, which is a credit towards your monthly active user bill,” with the per-user rate “to be negotiated on a per-company basis.” He adds that “all existing partners become ‘Enterprise’ automatically” and “no existing partner has to pay the $1,000 Enterprise entry fee.”18 Garmin’s public page shows no prices.7
The harder change is about sharing. On October 9, Tinker warned that “Garmin terms and conditions have been updated and It is likely that we will have to block access to Garmin data via the API soon,” and called it “a great deal of harm for many coaching businesses, apps and individuals.”6061 Intervals Pro, an AI coaching app that read Garmin data through intervals.icu, closed on October 12; its owner Max Revitt told the5krunner it was “closing because Garmin are going to restrict downstream data, just as Strava have done.”58
By October 24, Tinker’s answer to apps using intervals.icu as a bridge was “Yes. You need to get your own connection to Garmin to get activity data,” and “Not sure what is going to happen with wellness data and uploading workouts yet.”43 FIT files you upload yourself are “likely ok.”62 The new terms themselves are not public; Tinker saw them “only in the portal popup.”61
Two more wrinkles. Runalyze reported on October 6 that “Garmin removes unknown fields” from API files, “such as the VO2max estimate, recovery time or performance condition,” while the original Garmin Connect file keeps them.12 The5krunner notes that “Garmin has not said whether a personal key returns the complete file or the stripped one,” and that “a personal key cannot send a session to your own watch.”63
Garmin’s public agreement already limits data use “solely for internal business purposes,” and requires an “AI Transparency Statement” with “explicit consent from each End User” when apps use Garmin data for AI.64
What are Connect IQ apps, and how are they different?
Connect IQ apps run on the watch itself: watch faces, data fields and full apps such as komoot navigation and Stryd Zones. They are installed from the Connect IQ Store, not linked as cloud accounts, and the5krunner reports the program is separate from the Garmin Connect API, so the 2026 pause did not affect it.202122
komoot shows the difference well. Its Connect IQ app gives you “all saved routes,” komoot maps with auto re-routing, and “Activity sync to both Garmin Connect and komoot.” Without it, Garmin Courses Sync carries “only the last 10 saved routes from the past 2 months,” and “navigation instructions are calculated by Garmin.”20
Stryd uses both routes at once: the Stryd Zones data field from the Connect IQ Store, plus a Garmin Connect account link set to “both ‘Import’ AND ‘Export’.”21 Garmin itself notes that “other ways to view HRV information may be available with the use of a third-party Connect IQ app.”5
The store is busy. The5krunner reported review delays of up to about two weeks in October 2026, with Garmin’s Connect IQ staff citing “an enormous influx of app submissions.”65
Can a Garmin watch send heart rate to Zwift, Peloton or gym apps?
Yes, live, over Bluetooth and ANT+. Heart-rate broadcast sends only your current heart rate; Virtual Run adds pace and cadence for apps such as Zwift, and can feed Garmin’s Training Load. Peloton has gone further, to a full two-way sync, per DC Rainmaker and the5krunner.6234748
Broadcast is the simplest route. “Many Garmin devices can broadcast heart rate,” over both Bluetooth and ANT+, though “broadcast heart rate data from our devices does not support secure connections.”6 Fitbod on Android uses it: open the Heart Rate widget, “Select Broadcast Heart Rate,” and keep the watch on that screen.25
Virtual Run goes further. “Select Garmin watches can be paired with compatible third-party apps, such as Zwift, via Bluetooth to transmit pace, heart rate, and cadence data.”2324 If the app is also a connected app, saving on both “will result in duplicate activities,” and Virtual Runs cannot give you a VO2 max estimate.23
Peloton is the exception that became a full sync: per DC Rainmaker and the5krunner, Peloton workouts flow into Garmin Connect since March 2026, and “double workouts will occur” if you also record on the watch.4748
Can I export Garmin data to any app?
Yes, one file at a time. Garmin Connect exports each activity’s original FIT file, plus TCX, GPX and CSV splits, and a full account export arrives as FIT files. Any app that imports FIT files can read it, which makes this the route that always works.14
Garmin lets you export “the original file format from the device, typically a .fit file,” plus TCX, GPX and CSV splits.14 If a TCX or GPX file comes out empty, “download the original FIT file instead.”66 Going the other way, Garmin Connect accepts “.fit (up to 50MB), .gpx, or .tcx (up to 25MB)” uploads.67
Does Garmin Connect+ unlock more app integrations?
No. Garmin Connect+ costs $6.99 a month or $69.99 a year in the US as of November 2026, and no third-party integration appears in its premium feature list. Apple Health, Health Connect, Strava and partner links carry no subscription requirement in Garmin’s articles, and Garmin says “all existing features and data in Garmin Connect will remain free.”6869123
What Connect+ does add, per Garmin’s comparison chart: extra Garmin Coach guidance, Garmin Active Intelligence (AI) insights, a desktop Performance Dashboard, LiveTrack enhancements, nutrition tracking, offline trails, 3D maps and exclusive badges.68 Garmin Coach plans themselves stay free, except that the CIRQA Smart Band needs a Connect+ plan.29
Nutrition is the one feature that overlaps with partner apps. Since January 5, 2026, Connect+ tracks “calories and macros (proteins, fats and carbs),” with barcode scanning and “AI-powered image recognition to log foods.”70 That is an alternative to MyFitnessPal or Cronometer, not a requirement for them.
The5krunner also confirms that Peloton’s sync into Garmin “is not locked behind the Garmin Connect+ subscription.”48
Do strength training apps like Hevy, Strong and Fitbod work with Garmin?
Mostly not directly. Hevy says Garmin rejected its API application, Strong’s help center lists no Garmin integration, and Fitbod uses Garmin only for live heart rate on Android in its own help. The workaround is Strava: Hevy, Fitbod and Garmin all send exercises, sets, reps and weight there.71722539
| App | What it says about Garmin | Date |
|---|---|---|
| Hevy | “Garmin has rejected Hevy’s application for access to their API.” Garmin’s suggested alternatives, a Connect IQ app or routines sent to Garmin Training, don’t “meet Hevy’s standards of user experience”71 | Created Oct 2, 2025; edited Oct 16, 2025 |
| Strong | No Garmin article in its integrations section, which covers Apple Health, Health Connect and MyFitnessPal (legacy72) | Checked Nov 4, 2026 |
| Fitbod | Live heart rate via Garmin “Broadcast Heart Rate” on Android25; its FAQ lists Garmin under “Wearable Sync” in one line but leaves it out of “Integrates with” in another73 | Edited May 11, 2026 |
| Via Strava | Strava’s strength partners include Garmin, Hevy, Fitbod and Runna39 | Updated Nov 3, 2026 |
Each app’s own help center, checked November 4, 2026.
Hevy’s article is unusually frank: “We would like to integrate with Garmin, but it is not possible at this time.”71 It also claims “only a select few apps (Strava, MyFitnessPal)” can send workouts to Garmin. That is Hevy’s view; TrainerRoad, Wahoo SYSTM and Zwift also write activities into Garmin Connect.71314630
Why is strength so hard? The5krunner’s analysis is that Connect IQ lacks a way to write set-and-rep records into a FIT file, and one app, Rack Strength, worked around it over Bluetooth: “we never needed their permission.”74 Treat that as one reviewer’s reading, not Garmin’s statement.
Even TrainingPeaks and Runna stop at strength. TrainingPeaks does not push strength workouts to Garmin, and Runna’s “non-running activity types (strength, yoga, etc.) don’t transfer.”928 SensAI has the same one-way shape: it writes the strength workouts you track to Apple Health, but “Garmin Connect never reads from Apple Health, so nothing flows back to Garmin.”15
Free apps that work with Garmin
Garmin Connect itself stays free, and so do the connections. Apple Health and Health Connect are built into the phone, Garmin Coach plans are free, intervals.icu is “$0 forever,” TrainingPeaks has a free Basic account, and intervals.icu’s founder says the Personal API key is free. You only pay for some apps’ premium features.69122926338

For a free log that keeps your Garmin HRV, intervals.icu is the one to know, with the October 2026 caveat that apps reading Garmin data through it are being cut off.261143
How accurate is the Garmin data these apps receive?
Good for steps and resting heart rate, uneven for exercise heart rate, weak for calories and overnight HRV. An independent 2025 ECG study rated Garmin Fenix 6 overnight HRV at a concordance of 0.87, “poor agreement,” and two 2026 lifting studies found calorie estimates invalid in opposite directions. Sleep timing beats sleep stages.75767778

All studies verified on PubMed via NCBI E-utilities, November 4, 2026. CCC = Lin’s concordance correlation coefficient; MAPE = mean absolute percentage error; MAE = mean absolute error; κ = Cohen’s kappa.
The long view comes from Kelly R. Evenson, PhD, an adjunct professor of epidemiology at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health whose research focuses on measuring physical activity. Her systematic review of 32 Garmin studies “indicated higher validity of steps; few studies on speed, elevation, and sleep; and lower validity for distance, energy expenditure, and heart rate.”78
The HRV result matters most for the apps above. Michael B. Dial, PhD, a postdoctoral scholar at The Ohio State University’s Human Performance Collaborative, and colleagues found that “Garmin Fenix and Polar demonstrated lower concordance, highlighting the importance of continuous validation.”75 In a later reply, the same team argued that fair comparison “requires greater transparency from manufacturers, including public documentation of how key physiological metrics are derived.”90
Calories deserve the most caution. Garmin overestimated a lifting session by about 160 kcal in one 2026 study and underestimated a similar session by about 164 kcal in another.7677 That number is what MyFitnessPal shows as exercise calories.27
Two gaps remain. Garmin’s SpO2 failed validation in the study above, and we found no peer-reviewed validation of Body Battery on PubMed today.87 For the cross-brand HRV evidence, see wearable HRV accuracy validation studies.
Should one night’s HRV change your training?
Not on its own. In the 2025 ECG study, Garmin’s overnight HRV was off by about 10.5% on average, and a 2026 Forerunner 955 study judged the sensor reliable for “within-subject PRV trends” but not absolute accuracy. A single-night swing inside that error band can be noise; judge the multi-day trend.7579
Think of a bathroom scale that reads a kilo high or low on any given morning. One reading tells you little; a week of readings moving the same way tells you something.
That is our inference from two studies, not a tested rule. Whichever app receives your Garmin HRV, TrainingPeaks, Cronometer, intervals.icu or Runalyze, read it as a rolling trend.
Where does SensAI fit?
SensAI is an iPhone coaching app that reads Garmin only through Apple Health; there is no Garmin account link. It gets the workouts, heart rate, sleep, steps and calories Garmin writes there, but not HRV, Body Battery or Training Readiness. TrainingPeaks, Cronometer, intervals.icu and Runalyze get Garmin HRV; SensAI does not.159101112
The Help Center answers the most common question directly: “Does SensAI connect to Garmin Connect directly? No. SensAI reads Apple Health only.”15 It also repeats Garmin’s rule: “Garmin’s connection is one-way. Connect pushes to Apple Health but never reads from it, and Garmin’s own documentation says the Connect app needs to be in the foreground for the transfer to happen.”15
What SensAI does with what arrives: “Sleep and overnight heart rate from your device shape how hard Coach asks you to push on a given day.” Your Garmin runs and rides “sit next to your planned strength sessions in the Activity tab,” so “a heavy cycling block shows up as load that strength volume has to fit around.”15 It syncs roughly the last 30 days of Apple Health workouts.15
The limit is plain. “Will Coach see my HRV? Only from Apple Watch.” With a Garmin alone, the HRV tile “will read ‘No recent value’ unless an Apple Watch is providing it.”15
Nothing flows back to your watch either. “SensAI writes the strength workouts you track in the app to Apple Health. Garmin Connect never reads from Apple Health, so nothing flows back to Garmin.”15
To set it up, follow how to connect a wearable to SensAI through Apple Health.
Why isn’t Garmin syncing with my other apps?
Usually Garmin Connect hasn’t been opened, a permission is off, or two routes are fighting. Apple Health transfers pause unless Garmin Connect is open in the foreground, historical data is off by default for partners, Garmin never forwards one partner’s data to another, and recording the same workout through two paths creates duplicates.117323
| Symptom | Documented cause or fix | Source |

Frequently asked questions
What apps work with Garmin?
Apple Health and Health Connect apps, Strava, and direct partners including TrainingPeaks, intervals.icu, Cronometer, MyFitnessPal, Runna, Zwift, TrainerRoad, Final Surge, Wahoo SYSTM, komoot, Stryd, Runalyze and Peloton. Connect IQ apps run on the watch, and since October 2026 you can pull your own data with a Personal API key.378
Does Garmin sync HRV to Apple Health?
No. HRV is not on Garmin’s Apple Health list, and Body Battery, stress and Training Readiness aren’t either. HRV is also missing from Garmin’s Health Connect list.1216
Does Garmin work with MyFitnessPal?
Yes, both ways. Garmin activities appear in MyFitnessPal as “Exercise Calories,” calories you log in MyFitnessPal go to Garmin’s nutrition view, and weight syncs both ways. Only future data posts.2736
Does Garmin sync with Cronometer?
Yes, from Garmin to Cronometer. Cronometer imports weight, body fat, sleep, exercise, heart rate, blood pressure, HRV, SpO2 and respiration from Garmin, and can backfill up to two years of Garmin data.10
Does intervals.icu still work with Garmin?
Yes. intervals.icu syncs Garmin activities and wellness, including HRV as rMSSD, on its “$0 forever” free tier. What changed in October 2026 is onward sharing: apps that read Garmin data through intervals.icu now need their own Garmin connection for activity data, and its founder is “not sure” yet about wellness data and workout uploads.35112643
Does Hevy work with Garmin?
Not directly. Hevy says “Garmin has rejected Hevy’s application for access to their API.” Hevy workouts can reach Strava with sets, reps and weight, and Garmin strength workouts can too.7139
Does Garmin work with Health Connect?
Yes, one way, on Android 14 and above. Garmin writes activities, heart rate, sleep stages, steps, calories and weight, but not HRV or Body Battery, and reads nothing back.2
Can I get a Garmin API key for personal use?
Yes. Garmin’s Personal tier, live since its October 21, 2026 relaunch per intervals.icu’s founder, gives you a key for your own activity, health and women’s health data. It is pull-only, created in Garmin Connect’s web settings, and shown only once.7598
Does Garmin Connect+ add integrations?
No. Connect+ ($6.99 a month or $69.99 a year) adds AI insights, nutrition tracking, 3D maps and coaching extras, but no third-party integration is on its premium list, and Garmin says existing features stay free.6869
Does Garmin work with Zwift and Peloton?
Yes. Zwift imports Garmin activities and sends rides back, and compatible watches can join Zwift runs via Virtual Run. Peloton syncs both ways since March 2026, per DC Rainmaker and the5krunner.30244748
What’s the best HRV app for Garmin?
For the watch’s own overnight HRV, an app with a direct Garmin link: TrainingPeaks, Cronometer, intervals.icu or Runalyze. HRV4Training, Elite HRV and Welltory can’t read a Garmin watch’s HRV, though Elite HRV and Welltory work with Garmin’s HRM-Dual and HRM-Pro straps.9101112545756
The bottom line
Most apps that “work with Garmin” get only part of it. Apple Health and Health Connect apps see workouts, heart rate, sleep, steps and calories, but not HRV or Body Battery. TrainingPeaks, Cronometer, intervals.icu and Runalyze get your HRV. October 2026’s API relaunch added a personal API key and tightened onward sharing.129101112743
Pick the route by what you need. For HRV and Body Battery inside a training plan, TrainingPeaks. For free analysis, intervals.icu, watching how its Garmin access settles. Any Apple Health app, SensAI included, sees only what Garmin writes there, minus the HRV and scores Garmin keeps to itself.9264315
