Freeletics turned the burpee-heavy “God workout” into a phone habit. It started in Munich in 2013, and its App Store listing now promises an AI Coach that “customizes each workout to your fitness level” for a community of “60 million athletes.”12
The questions people type are more practical. How much does Freeletics cost? Is the free version enough? Does the AI Coach do more than shuffle workouts? And why does an app rated 4.6 on the App Store score 2.6 on Trustpilot?13
Every price, limit and feature below was checked on 28 October 2026 against Freeletics’ US App Store and Google Play listings, its help center and terms, Trustpilot, and PubMed. SensAI makes a competing app, so we show where SensAI loses as well.
Is Freeletics worth it in 2026?
Freeletics is worth it if you want short, hard, planned bodyweight workouts and can pay at least three months up front. US App Store Training Coach plans cost $34.99 to $79.99 (the Training and Nutrition Bundle runs to $89.99), with no monthly option. The free version is usable; the AI Coach adapts to feedback, not sleep or heart rate.145

US App Store listings, checked 28 October 2026.
Freeletics is a mature, well-maintained product. It ships an update almost every week (version 26.42.0 landed on 26 October 2026), runs on iPhone, Android and Apple Watch, and has more peer-reviewed research on its users than any other app here.11011
Its weak spots are the billing model and the depth of its “AI.” You commit to a multi-month term, renewals are not refundable under its guarantee, and the Coach ignores the health data your watch collects.125
How much does Freeletics cost? Freeletics pricing in 2026
On the US App Store, the Freeletics Training Coach costs $34.99, $59.99, $74.99 or $79.99, and the Training and Nutrition Bundle $49.99 or $89.99. Freeletics sells 3-, 6- and 12-month plans, but Apple does not label which price matches which length. There is no monthly plan and no separate AI Coach price.1
| Product | US App Store prices | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Training Coach | $34.99 · $59.99 · $74.99 · $79.99 | The AI Coach and personalized training plans19 |
| Training and Nutrition Bundle | $49.99 · $89.99 | Training Coach plus the separate Freeletics Nutrition app1 |
Apple’s in-app purchase list, 28 October 2026. It shows ten entries, several at the same price, and no plan lengths. Freeletics’ own listing text says the six subscriptions are “Training (3 / 6 / 12 months)” and “Training & Nutrition (3 / 6 / 12 months).”1
Does the Freeletics AI Coach cost extra?
No. The AI Coach is not a separate add-on. Freeletics’ Google Play listing says the AI Coach “builds customized training plans, available in all subscriptions,” and the App Store says the Training Coach is included in both products.91 So the Freeletics AI Coach price is simply the Freeletics subscription price.
What is the Freeletics price per month?
Freeletics has no monthly plan, so the per-month price depends on how long you commit. If the usual mapping holds ($34.99 for 3 months, $59.99 for 6 and $74.99–$79.99 for 12), the Training Coach works out to about $11.66, $10.00 and $6.25–$6.67 a month. Freeletics has not confirmed that mapping.113
| Training Coach price | Likely term | Per month | Paid up front |
|---|---|---|---|
| $34.99 | 3 months | about $11.66 | $34.99 |
| $59.99 | 6 months | about $10.00 | $59.99 |
| $74.99 or $79.99 | 12 months | about $6.25–$6.67 | $74.99 or $79.99 |
Term mapping from a third-party review, not from Apple or Freeletics.13 Treat the per-month column as an estimate.
The weekly prices you may see on Freeletics’ website are just illustration. Its help center says: “You will be charged the entire amount for the renewal period that you choose, the weekly price that’s visible on the website is just there as a reference to compare the cost of different time periods.”14
Is there a Freeletics lifetime plan?
Yes, but only on the Freeletics website, not in the App Store. The web checkout offers 3-, 6- and 12-month plans plus a Lifetime plan and a “Super Bundle,” priced by your location. We could not load US web prices on 28 October 2026, so we do not quote a current lifetime price.15
Freeletics’ web store priced by the visitor’s location and served us Brazilian prices, so the plan structure is confirmed but the US numbers are not.15 Our fitness app pricing comparison recorded the US web prices seen on 8 September 2026; check the checkout screen before you rely on them.
Is Freeletics free? What you get with the free version
Yes. Freeletics is free to download, and the free version has no time limit. The App Store says it includes 34 HIIT bodyweight workouts and 100+ exercises; the older Google Play text says 20 workouts, 25 exercises and 20 audio sessions. A personalized plan from the AI Coach needs a paid subscription.1916
| Free version | Coach subscription | |
|---|---|---|
| Workouts | “Signature God Workouts,” warm-ups and cool-downs; 34 HIIT workouts per the App Store171 | “All Freeletics Workouts, Exercises, and Runs”17 |
| Exercises | “A limited range of single exercises”; 100+ per the App Store171 | 700+ exercises1 |
| Runs and audio | Runs and audio sessions16 | All runs17 |
| Personalized plan | No | Yes; the Coach builds and adjusts it16 |
| Training Journeys | No | 30 fitness plans1 |
Freeletics frames the free tier honestly: it “is meant to give you a taste… A Coach subscription will provide a personalized training plan.”16 The Google Play listing also carries a “Contains ads” label.9
Here’s what this means for you. If you already know how to structure a week, the free workouts alone can carry you for months. The fixed workouts are the same hard, timed sessions the brand is known for. What you lose is the plan: nothing decides what you do tomorrow.
What does the Freeletics AI Coach actually do?
The Freeletics AI Coach is software, not a person. It builds a training plan from your goals, training days, equipment and running preferences, then adjusts future sessions from your performance and the feedback you give after each workout. It does not use heart rate, sleep or other imported health data to personalize your plan.4175
Freeletics is direct about the first point: “The Freeletics Coach is not a real person that you can talk to. The Coach is a digital program that uses the state of the art artificial intelligence to adjust your training plan to your goals, progress, strengths and weaknesses.”4
| What the Coach adapts | What it does not |
|---|---|
| Your training days, equipment and running preferences, set before your first workout17 | Talk with you; there is no chat4 |
| Future sessions, from “your performance and feedback after each session”17 | Use your heart rate, sleep or imported workouts to change your plan: “Your Coach does NOT interpret this data”5 |
| A single session through fixed “Adapt session” options: less time, no equipment, no space, no run, quiet training, a different session, up to two excluded body areas, or difficulty18 | Adapt sessions offline, or use most adapt options on the Hardcore journey18 |
| Your equipment by location, through Workout Spaces19 | Monitor heart rate during a workout on Apple Watch20 |
Think of it as a very well-stocked set menu. You tell the kitchen what you cannot eat today, and it swaps a dish. You cannot describe what you want in your own words.
The technology has a long history. Freeletics added machine learning to its Bodyweight Coach in 2017, and a 2020 update described “human-augmented AI.” Its Lead Data Scientist at the time, Simon Alger, said: “Our human-augmented AI harnesses the power of textbook AI, but in a more human way.”21 Freeletics also claimed “a rating of 85% accuracy after just five sessions,” but did not publish how that was measured, so read it as a company claim.21
Users have noticed the limits of whole-workout feedback. A 2024 content analysis of Freeletics found 15 behaviour-change techniques in the app, and its review of 400 user reviews flagged requests for simpler personalization and more specific feedback.11 One older App Store review put it plainly: “I have to mark the entire workout as ‘It was too much’ in order to give accurate feedback on that one exercise.”1
Does Freeletics have a free trial, refunds or a monthly plan?
No standard free trial and no monthly plan. Freeletics instead offers a 14-day money-back guarantee on your first purchase only; renewals are excluded. If you paid through the App Store, Apple handles the refund. Plans auto-renew unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends.11222
The refund rule matters most. Freeletics’ help center says: “You are only eligible for a refund within the first 14 days after your initial purchase. Note that the 14 day money back guarantee does not apply for subscription renewals.”12 Its terms say the same about the 14-day right of withdrawal: it “does not apply to automatic subscription extensions.”22
Trials do exist, but only in partner deals. Freeletics’ terms cover the case “insofar as a free trial has been agreed,” and its Decathlon partnership gave buyers of select Decathlon x Freeletics products 3 months of free subscription. The App Store listing advertises none.2223
How do I cancel Freeletics?
Cancel on the same platform where you paid: in your Apple ID subscriptions for App Store purchases, in Google Play for Android purchases, or on the Freeletics website for web purchases. You keep the Coach until the paid period ends. A web cancellation only counts once you receive a confirmation email.24
- “You can only manage your subscription on the same platform that you made your purchase.”24
- “You will still have access to the Coach for the remaining time of your current subscription period.”24
- Web purchases: “If you don’t receive a confirmation email, your cancellation was not successful.”24
- If you hold more than one subscription, “you must also cancel each subscription separately.”22
- To drop from Training and Nutrition to Training only, you “cancel your current subscription and buy a new subscription once your cancelled one expires.”25
- Cancelling a web plan “does not initiate the refund process.” Request the refund separately.12
Set a calendar reminder for a week before your renewal date when you subscribe. That one habit avoids the most common complaint about Freeletics, covered below.
What workouts does Freeletics include? Bodyweight, gym and running
Freeletics began as bodyweight HIIT and still leads with it, but the paid Coach also covers weights, gym machines and running. The App Store lists 700+ exercises and 30 fitness plans, and Apple’s editors describe 15–45 minute workouts, many needing no equipment. Weights journeys are built on squats, deadlifts, bench press, push press and rows.126
Freeletics organises its plans as Training Journeys, each a fixed number of sessions the Coach personalises:
| Journey type | Examples | Length |
|---|---|---|
| Bodyweight | “15 min Fitness,” “completed in 15 minutes from warmup to cooldown” | 24 sessions27 |
| Bodyweight, beginner | Start Strong / Start Smart; Fit For Life | 18 sessions over 6 weeks27 |
| Cardio | Cardio Burn | 48 sessions27 |
| Weights | Dumbbell Strength or Tone, Kettlebell Fundamentals, Barbell Gain or Tone | 42 sessions26 |
| Hybrid | Hybrid Strength | 48 sessions26 |
| Gym | Ultimate Strength, with Coach-assigned gym machines and in-workout swaps of exercises, weight and reps | Launched 202519 |
The 2025 updates pushed Freeletics further from its bodyweight roots. It added “17 new equipment options and over 300 new exercises,” Workout Spaces so “the Coach adjusts your sessions” to the equipment in each location, and an offline mode.19 Freeletics called Ultimate Strength “a true emphasis on strength for the first time EVER.”19
For days with little time, Freeletics sets a “Base,” which it defines as “the 17-minute minimum of daily movement.”28 So, how long are Freeletics workouts? Typically 15 to 45 minutes, and some journeys are built around 15.127
Does Freeletics work with Apple Watch, Garmin, Strava or Wear OS?
Freeletics has an Apple Watch app for starting and finishing workouts, but it does not track heart rate in the app and needs your iPhone in range. It imports activities from Apple Health, Health Connect and Strava. No Garmin or Wear OS app is listed. The App Store requires watchOS 9; the help center says watchOS 8.20129
| Device or service | What works | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Apple Watch | Start, complete and finish training from the watch; iPhone must stay in range. No “HR monitoring, live calorie counting or other biometrics” in the app; no standalone app | Help center20 |
| watchOS version | App Store: watchOS 9.0 or later. Help center: “watchOS 8 and higher” | 120 |
| Apple Health | Writes Freeletics workouts; imports workout type and duration into Daily Activities and Base | 30 |
| Health Connect (Android) | “Sync with Health Connect” toggle | 30 |
| Strava | Imports public activities recorded after you enable sync; they count toward your Base | 29 |
| Garmin | No direct integration documented; Garmin data can reach Freeletics only indirectly, through Apple Health, Health Connect or Strava | 30529 |
| Wear OS | No Wear OS app listed on Google Play or in the help center | 9 |
| Heart-rate charts | Freeletics’ 2025 review mentions heart-rate and zone charts “with a connected wearable device” | 19 |
Two of these sources pull in different directions. The Apple Watch article says the app does no heart-rate monitoring, while the 2025 review mentions heart-rate charts from a connected wearable. The likeliest reading is post-workout charts from wearable data, not live heart rate on your wrist.2019
The bigger point: whatever arrives from your watch is logged, not used to plan. Freeletics’ own blog says imported workouts bring only “the type of workout and duration,” and the Coach does not use them to personalize.5
What does the research say about Freeletics-style training?
No controlled trial has tested Freeletics or its AI Coach; PubMed holds two Freeletics papers, a user injury survey and an app content analysis. The methods it uses are well supported: short bodyweight intervals raise aerobic fitness, push-up progressions build strength comparable to bench press, and adjusting by effort or bar speed works about as well as fixed percentages.1011313233
| Question | What the research found | Study |
|---|---|---|
| How often do Freeletics users get hurt? | 4.57 injuries per 1,000 hours; 24% of men and 21% of women reported an injury; fewer in experienced users | Hertel et al., 2022, 3,668 Freeletics users10 |
| What makes the app sticky? | 15 behaviour-change techniques, led by goal setting, action planning, self-monitoring and social support | Kuru, 2024, plus 400 user reviews11 |
| Does an 11-minute bodyweight session work? | VO2peak 34.2 vs 30.3 mL/kg/min against controls after 18 sessions; 100% compliance | Archila et al., 2021, inactive adults31 |
| Do 4-minute burpee-style intervals work? | 8 × 20 s whole-body intervals raised VO2peak about 8%, matching 30-minute treadmill sessions; push-ups +135% | McRae et al., 2012, 22 women34 |
| Does HIIT improve fitness overall? | Raises cardiorespiratory fitness 3.25–5.5 mL/kg/min vs no exercise, including whole-body and home-based HIIT | Poon et al., 2024, 24 reviews, 12,967 people35 |
| Do unsupervised home programs work? | VO2peak +2.70 mL/kg/min vs control; larger gains when the program kept increasing the challenge | Casanova-Lizón et al., 202636 |
| Can push-ups match bench press? | Bench 1RM 61.1 → 64.2 kg with push-ups vs 60.0 → 65.0 kg with bench; “comparably effective” | Kikuchi & Nakazato, 2017, 18 men32 |
| Do progressive calisthenics build strength? | Push-up progressions raised bench 1RM like bench training over 4 weeks | Kotarsky et al., 2018, 23 men37 |
| Is bodyweight enough for maximum strength? | Muscle growth was similar across loads; strength gains were larger with moderate and heavy loads | Lopez et al., 2021, 28 studies38 |
| Do apps get people moving? | Apps and trackers added about 1,850 steps a day; personalisation features helped | Laranjo et al., 2021, 28 trials39 |
Is Freeletics safe?
The only safety data are reassuring rather than conclusive. In a self-reported survey of 3,668 Freeletics users, most injuries resolved within a week, and injuries were less frequent in experienced users, which is a good argument for starting on a beginner journey.10
Gernot Hertel and colleagues at the Technical University of Munich’s orthopaedic clinic ran that survey: the shoulder (29%) and knee (28%) were the most common injury sites, and “the vast majority of injuries were reported to have resolved within one week.”10 It had no control group, and these are the only safety data, all from Freeletics’ own users.
Can you build muscle with Freeletics?
Yes, up to a point. Nobuhiro Kikuchi’s team at Nippon Sport Science University found push-ups loaded to match a 40% bench press built chest and triceps size and strength as well as the bench press itself over 8 weeks.32 Another trial found progressive push-up variations improved bench strength as much as benching over 4 weeks.37
The ceiling is load. A network meta-analysis of 28 studies found muscle growth did not depend on load when sets went to failure, but strength rose more with heavy and moderate loads than light ones.38 That is why Freeletics’ weights journeys exist. Adding reps at the same difficulty also works: in a trial whose senior author was Brad Schoenfeld of Lehman College, City University of New York, the authors concluded “both progressions of repetitions and load appear to be viable strategies.”40 Our calisthenics progression guide shows how to keep bodyweight work progressive.
Do short, hard sessions actually improve fitness?
Yes, and this is where Freeletics’ format is strongest. In a McMaster University trial, an 11-minute session of burpees, high knees and jumping squats, done three times a week for six weeks, left inactive adults fitter than controls.31
Martin Gibala, professor of kinesiology at McMaster, said: “Our findings have relevance for individuals seeking practical, time-efficient approaches to at least maintain their fitness. The obvious advantage is that a workout of this nature can be done practically anywhere, in a time-efficient manner and without the need for specialized equipment.”41
The caveat is progression. A 2026 meta-analysis of unsupervised home-based programmes, covering sedentary healthy people and heart patients, found bigger fitness gains in studies that met the overload principle, meaning the work kept getting harder.36 A coach that adjusts your plan is useful precisely because it keeps you on that curve.
Does adjusting by feedback work?
Yes, in principle. Rating how hard a whole session felt is a well-validated way to track training load, and adjusting load by effort or bar speed builds strength about as well as fixed percentages. So Freeletics’ post-workout feedback loop rests on a sound idea, even if its granularity frustrates some users.423311
A review of 36 validation studies found session ratings valid and reliable enough to be used “standing alone.”42 In trained lifters, adjusting load by effort or bar speed produced strength gains similar to fixed percentages (a 2.07 kg difference that was not significant).33 Our guide to RPE and RIR explains how to rate effort well.
Will the app keep you training? Probably for a while. Liliana Laranjo’s team at the University of Sydney pooled 28 trials and found apps and trackers raised activity, with personalisation among the features linked to bigger effects.39 But a meta-analysis of 117 trials found effects shrink over time, and only 8 of those trials followed people beyond six months.43
What do Freeletics users complain about?
Mostly billing. Freeletics rates 4.6 on the US App Store and 4.2 on Google Play, but its Trustpilot TrustScore is 2.6 from 3,098 reviews, where complaints centre on unexpected annual renewal charges and refused refunds. Reviewers who liked it praised effective training journeys and a clear interface.193
| Platform | Rating | Volume |
|---|---|---|
| US App Store | 4.6 | 22,290 ratings1 |
| Google Play | 4.2 | 261K reviews; 10M+ downloads9 |
| Trustpilot | TrustScore 2.6 (“Poor”) | 3,098 reviews; 126 in the last 12 months3 |
Checked 28 October 2026. Trustpilot figures are a point-in-time snapshot.
Trustpilot’s reviews are polarised: 69% five-star and 17% one-star. Trustpilot’s own summary of 57 recent reviews opens: “most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall.” Its page notes Freeletics “hasn’t replied to negative reviews.”3
The pattern fits the rules above. The 14-day guarantee covers only your first purchase, so a missed annual renewal is the costly mistake.12
Privacy is the other thing to check. Freeletics’ App Store privacy label lists purchases, location, contact info, identifiers and usage data under “Data Used to Track You.”1
Is Freeletics legit?
Yes. Freeletics GmbH is a Munich company led by CEO Daniel Sobhani; it was founded in 2013, raised a $25M Series B in 2020, and became Decathlon’s official digital training partner in 2025.44219 The user count depends on where you look: 60 million on the App Store, 59 million in its 2025 press materials, and 42 million in the older Google Play text.129
Apple’s editors have also written about it in the App Store’s Editors’ Notes, calling the workouts “tough and incredibly effective.”1
Freeletics alternatives: how do Fitify, BetterMe, Fitbod and SensAI compare?
Fitify is the closest Freeletics alternative: bodyweight-first with an AI Coach, $69.99 a year, with monthly plans. Fitbod suits gym lifters at $15.99 a month or $95.99 a year. BetterMe sells weekly, monthly and annual plans from $6.99 to $41.99. SensAI is a conversational coach that reads Apple Health, at $6.99 a month.67458

Where does SensAI fit?
SensAI is a conversational AI coach for iPhone and Apple Watch. You tell Coach what you need in your own words, and it reads Apple Health, so sleep and overnight heart rate from your device shape how hard it asks you to push. It costs $6.99 a month or $69.99 a year after a 7-day free trial.846
The difference from Freeletics is in the inputs. Freeletics’ Coach “is not a real person that you can talk to,” and its Coach “does NOT interpret” imported health data.45 SensAI’s listing says “Smart Modify can shorten your workout, change its intensity, or shift its focus. Just type what you need.”8 And per SensAI’s Help Center, “Sleep and overnight heart rate from your device shape how hard Coach asks you to push on a given day.”46
There are limits on that data. SensAI reads Apple Health only, so your device’s own app has to write there first. Apple Watch is the only device that shares HRV that way, and vendor scores such as Garmin’s Body Battery, WHOOP’s Recovery and Oura’s Readiness never cross.46 To see what your device shares, read how to connect a wearable to SensAI through Apple Health.
Where Freeletics beats SensAI:
- Platforms. Freeletics runs on Android and on iOS 17; SensAI is iPhone and Apple Watch only and needs iOS 26.198
- Free use. Freeletics has a free version with no clock; SensAI has a 7-day trial.18
- Track record. Freeletics has 22,290 US ratings against SensAI’s 39, and peer-reviewed studies of its users.1810
- Library and nutrition. 700+ exercises and 30 plans against SensAI’s 500+ exercises, plus a Nutrition app bundle and a web Lifetime plan.1158
Where SensAI is different: a $6.99 monthly plan instead of a 3-month minimum, a coach you can type to, and recovery data that changes the day’s plan.846 No trial has tested SensAI’s coaching either, so judge both on how they fit your week.
Who should use Freeletics, and who should pick something else?
Pick Freeletics if you want short, hard, mostly bodyweight workouts with a structured plan, use Android, or want to train free for a while first. Pick an alternative if you want a monthly plan, a gym-first planner, or a coach that uses your sleep and heart rate. Everyone should note the renewal date.1125

Frequently asked questions
Is Freeletics worth it?
Yes, if you want short, hard bodyweight workouts planned for you and can pay for at least three months up front. The free version has no time limit, but the AI Coach adapts to your feedback, not your sleep or heart rate, and the 14-day money-back guarantee does not cover renewals.14512
How much does Freeletics cost per month?
Freeletics has no monthly plan. US App Store Training Coach plans cost $34.99, $59.99, $74.99 or $79.99 for 3 to 12 months, which works out to roughly $6.25–$11.66 a month if the usual term mapping is right. The Training and Nutrition Bundle is $49.99 or $89.99.113
Is Freeletics free?
Yes, with limits. The free version has no time limit and, per the App Store, includes 34 HIIT bodyweight workouts and 100+ exercises. The AI Coach, personalized plans and the full library need a subscription.117
Does Freeletics have a free trial?
Not as standard. The App Store and website offer a 14-day money-back guarantee on your first purchase instead, and it does not cover renewals. Free trials appear only through partner offers.11222
How do I cancel Freeletics and get a refund?
Cancel on the platform where you paid, at least 24 hours before renewal. Refunds are possible only within 14 days of your first purchase; for App Store purchases, request it from Apple.24121
Is the Freeletics AI Coach a real person?
No. Freeletics says the Coach “is not a real person that you can talk to.” It is a program that adjusts your plan from your setup answers, performance and post-workout feedback.417
Is Freeletics good for beginners?
Yes, if you start on a beginner journey such as Start Strong or Start Smart, 18 sessions over six weeks. In a survey of 3,668 users, injuries were less frequent in experienced users, so build up gradually.2710
Does Freeletics work with Garmin or Wear OS?
Not directly. Freeletics documents no Garmin integration and lists no Wear OS app. Garmin workouts can reach it indirectly through Apple Health, Health Connect or Strava, but only the type and duration are imported, and the Coach does not use them to adjust your plan.302959
Can Freeletics build muscle without weights?
Yes, especially as a beginner. Push-up training matched bench press for muscle and strength gains in short trials, but heavier loads build more maximal strength, which is why Freeletics added weights and gym journeys.32373826
The bottom line
Freeletics is a good, proven bodyweight training app with a generous free version and a Coach that keeps your plan progressive. Its costs are the up-front, multi-month billing, a refund window that ignores renewals, and an AI that listens only to your post-workout feedback. Start free, and subscribe only if you keep showing up.1125
If you want hard 15-minute sessions on any phone, Freeletics remains one of the best-built options, and the research behind short bodyweight intervals is solid.3135 If you want month-to-month pricing, Fitify or SensAI fits better. If you want your coach to notice a bad night’s sleep, Freeletics will not.
